How to stop auto indenting in VIM when pasting

Finally I spent the time to figure out how to paste in VIM without it adding so much extra indenting that pasted text isn’t even readable.

All you have to do is tell VIM that you are pasting and it will suspend auto indenting. Do so by:

:set paste

When done, tell VIM and it will resume it’s normal indenting while you type:

:set nopaste

Gone is all the time deleting the extra indents from my pasting. :)

You’re Switching My Apartment to Comcast? I’m Moving Out

This from Digg:

The apartment complex I live in near Greenbelt, Maryland, is switching all residents to Comcast. That’s reason enough for me to move out.

AMEN!

Recently my Comcast cable modem went out — unbelievably in the middle of an online poker game. I called them up to get it fixed and they say they need to send a truck out. OK, fine. Send one out. Then I get the “our first available time is two days from now.”

You’ve got to be kidding me! A service provider cannot even look at what’s wrong with their own equipment for two days?

Comcast has become too big for their own good. They need more competition so they can learn to treat their customers like a customer. Until then, I say goodbye and good riddance! Hopefully Verizon is a little better with customer service (not holding my breath). At least the pipe to the Internet will be bigger….

Must admit, I feel like flipping people a nickel every once in awhile.

Ben Curtis

Oh, how the mighty have fallen: Ben Curtis, famous just a few years ago as “Steven the Dell Dude,” is now a waiter / bartender at Tortilla Flats in New York. Although the Steven ads were hugely popular and generated tons of buzz (and revenue) for Dell, the company eventually dropped the campaign after Ben got arrested for buying pot in 2003 — shocking no one who actually watched the commercials, but apparently not the message Dell wanted to send the parents fronting the cash for all those machines.
Although he’s down to slinging drinks, Ben’s taking it in stride, saying “There were times when I made boatloads of money as an actor, but here I can be myself.” That doesn’t mean he’s given up the dream just yet: he’s hoping to score big with his band, Whale, which he says has “the green light,” but has “decided to take a little time off to record our EP and package ourselves properly.”

Slashdot | EMI Caught Offering Illegal Downloads

Slashdot’s running an article how EMI was caught offering illegal music downloads:

“While the RIAA is swift to punish any person caught offering illegal downloads, they’re not very swift with outrage when a member company like EMI offers illegal downloads. Not only did the band King Crimson’s contract never allow digital distribution to begin with, but band member Robert Fripp claims that EMI offered their music for sale even after their contract ended entirely.”

Wonder if they will now sue themselves?
